Despite progress in many parts of the world, millions of women still live under laws that restrict their freedom, dignity, and basic human rights. These discriminatory laws often limit women’s rights to travel freely, choose their clothing, access property, inherit land, vote, or participate equally in public life. Such legal barriers institutionalize gender inequality, reinforce dependency, and expose women to control and abuse. For women in oppressive legal systems, justice remains distant—and freedom conditional.
Awareness & Legal Rights Education
At WakeUp Her, we prioritize raising awareness about gender-based legal discrimination and educating women about their civil, legal, and human rights. Our goal is to build knowledge that enables women to recognize violations and seek redress.
We offer community workshops, multilingual legal literacy programs, and access to resources that explain rights related to movement, marriage, inheritance, and bodily autonomy. We also engage youth, religious leaders, and lawmakers to challenge cultural norms that legitimize oppressive laws. Awareness is the first step toward resistance— and reform.
Support & Policy Advocacy
WakeUp Her works alongside legal aid organizations, human rights defenders, and grassroots activists to support women in navigating unjust legal systems. We provide referrals to pro bono legal services, court support, and emergency advocacy for women facing restrictions or persecution.
Beyond individual support, we advocate for systemic change: reforming outdated laws, pressuring governments to align with international women’s rights treaties, and uplifting women-led movements fighting for legal equality. By confronting injustice through legal empowerment and public policy, we strive to build a world where women’s rights are not negotiable—but protected and enforced.
