Food, Housing & Land Insecurity – Especially for Single Women

$100,000.0 Needed Donation

Overview

Single women, widows, and single mothers are among the most vulnerable to housing instability, food scarcity, and land insecurity. Many face discriminatory laws, cultural biases, and limited economic opportunities that prevent them from accessing safe shelter, owning land, or providing consistent meals for themselves and their children. Homelessness, unsafe living conditions, eviction threats, and hunger disproportionately affect women living alone or heading households. These insecurities strip women of autonomy, increase their exposure to violence, and trap them in cycles of poverty and dependence.

Awareness & Education for Economic Rights

At WakeUp Her, we believe access to food, shelter, and land is not a luxury—but a basic human right. Through awareness campaigns, we educate communities about the legal and social barriers that prevent women—especially single and widowed women—from accessing secure housing and food systems

We promote land rights education, renters’ rights awareness, and training in nutrition and sustainable food practices, while also challenging gender norms that associate property ownership and economic power only with men. By reshaping mindsets and policies, we aim to empower women to claim what is rightfully theirs.

Support & Empowerment Programs

WakeUp Her provides supportive housing connections, food assistance, and legal aid for women navigating insecure living conditions. We work in partnership with local shelters, housing services, food banks, and legal advocacy centers to help single women and mothers access stable homes, nutritious food, and fair property rights

We also support community farming projects, housing cooperatives, and financial literacy programs that allow women to become economically independent and food secure. By addressing the root causes of landlessness, hunger, and housing instability, we build stronger, more resilient lives for women who are too often left behind.
