Gender-Based Violence (GBV)

$100,000.0 Needed Donation

Overview

Gender-Based Violence (GBV) is one of the most widespread and devastating violations of human rights, affecting millions of women and girls worldwide. It includes physical, emotional, sexual, and psychological abuse, often inflicted by intimate partners, family members, co-workers, or strangers. GBV does not discriminate by age, status, or background—it occurs in homes, workplaces, schools, and public spaces, often in silence.

At WakeUp Her, we recognize GBV as a deep-rooted systemic issue tied to power imbalances, social norms, and structural inequality. Survivors are often silenced by fear, stigma, or lack of access to justice and protection. We believe that every woman has the right to live free from violence and that society must take collective responsibility to break the silence, support survivors, and end the cycle of abuse.

Awareness & Education for Prevention

Prevention begins with awareness, education, and societal change. Many communities still normalize or downplay acts of violence against women, leaving survivors without validation or support. WakeUp Her is committed to changing the narrative through campaigns that raise public understanding of what constitutes GBV, its root causes, and its far-reaching impact on individuals and society.

We provide gender sensitivity workshops, consent education, and violence prevention training in schools, community centers, and workplaces. Our programs aim to empower women, engage men as allies, and educate youth on building relationships rooted in respect, equality, and safety. Through storytelling, advocacy, and media engagement, we challenge harmful stereotypes and encourage communities to become safe spaces for all.

Support, Recovery & Legal Advocacy

At WakeUp Her, we provide compassionate, survivor-centered support for women affected by gender-based violence. Our services include crisis counseling, emergency shelter referrals, safety planning, and legal advocacy to help survivors regain control of their lives. We ensure confidentiality, dignity, and trauma-informed care in every step of the recovery process.

In addition to direct support, we work with law enforcement, healthcare providers, and legal institutions to improve response systems and ensure survivors receive justice. We advocate for stronger protective laws, accessible reporting mechanisms, and long term mental health care for healing and empowerment. At WakeUp Her, we believe that healing is possible, and with the right support, every survivor can reclaim their voice, safety, and future.
