Despite comprising half the world’s population, women remain significantly underrepresented in political, economic, and institutional leadership. Deep-rooted gender biases, lack of access to networks and resources, and structural barriers continue to keep women out of positions of power where decisions are made that shape their lives and communities. In many regions, women face intimidation, discrimination, or violence when they run for office or assume leadership roles. This underrepresentation not only silences women’s voices but also results in policies and governance that fail to reflect the needs, rights, and lived experiences of half the population.
Awareness & Education for Political Inclusion
At WakeUp Her, we aim to dismantle the outdated norms and stereotypes that suggest leadership is a male domain. Through community education, youth engagement, and media advocacy, we work to reshape the public perception of what leadership looks like— making space for women, especially from marginalized backgrounds, to lead with strength, empathy, and vision.
We organize workshops and awareness campaigns that encourage women and girls to see themselves as decision-makers, changemakers, and leaders in their own right. We also advocate for gender-inclusive education, civic training in schools, and leadership mentoring programs that build young women’s confidence and political literacy from an early age.
Support, Representation & Policy Advocacy
To bridge the gender gap in leadership, WakeUp Her supports women aspiring to take on leadership roles through capacity-building, mentorship, and advocacy training. We connect women with networks, resources, and platforms that help them navigate political spaces with confidence and protection.
At a policy level, we push for gender quotas, inclusive political party reforms, and protection measures for women in public life to ensure that leadership reflects true gender equity. Our goal is not just to increase numbers—but to build a society where women’s leadership is visible, valued, and vital to governance and community transformation.
